Son to Aalt
64 years old Van der Horst became member in 1967 of the local pigeon club. “Together with my father Aalt I spend many hours between the pigeons,” he says. “It did not take long before we had our first successes. In 1970 we competed in four middle distance races and we won 3x 1st prize.”
Now, in 2007, middle distance is still the favourite discipline for Evert.
Because Evert’s uncle (now 84 years of age) had the exact same name, the young Evert was given the addition Azn in the list; son to Aalt. This never changed, even since uncle Evert quit entering for races. Evert’s own son Alwin got interested in pigeons as well. Even though he is not (yet) active in the care of the pigeons, he does help with the administration for his father.
